Bowing as an issue

I had my hair cut.

Are people REALLY upset about this?? Give me a break! Have these people every heard of cultural awareness, or at least, following the cultural norms of were people are traveling? When American women go to certain Middle East countries, they cover their hair out of respect for those countries' cultural norms. When North Americans visit Latin America, they learn to greet people buy giving 1, 2 or 3 kisses on the cheek, out of respect for cultural norms. When foreigners come to high level meetings in the US, they too adapt to our norms, so, once again.....what's the problem? Was it a simple bow, or is it perhaps an Napoleanic need to critize others in order to feel better about one's self?? I can't be sure, but I have a big feeling that it's the second option.
