An interesting seminar on the environment...

I've been feeling a little too sleepy. I do fall asleep as soon as I get in my bed but haven't slept long enough over the last week or so (or several months rather... because I always get restless on my holidays), because of which my performance during the day hasn't been as good as it should be...

Yesterday I was invited to attend a seminar on the issue of global warming. Wasn't so big a gathering but so informative and intellectually stimulating. There were both social and natural scientists and at a small party of the previous night I was speking to the lecturer who said the seminar was going to be like a fierce debate. It wasn't like that but I did see some differences in opinion between the two camps. That is, the social science people were scheptical about the role of CO2 in global warming in the sense that that's been considered the sole factor, whereas the natural science people argued it wasn't the case. That was nice to see, though, in the end we all, maybe except a few, thought the seminar was worth attending. I'm related to the social science camp so my judgement may be biased in favour of them but still, they seemed to have the upper hand over the others.

What I thought... the intellectuals tend to be pessimistic about the general public and their level of understanding/awareness.  That circle of people too, though, deserve to be/need to be included in the debate in general.

In any case it's really good that I now meet people with whom I do feel free to exchange opinions.

We should always remind ourselves that we only see the tip of the iceberg!
